Picked up a Petri Color 35mm film camera for $20 in a local camera shop. Everything on it works and it even came with its original leather case. The viewfinder is wonderful. I’m currently working on my first roll.

Those old Petri’s are pretty nice, built like tanks and a very good lens.

I miss shooting B&W. Specifically, the developing process. The atmosphere of the darkroom was always nice too - everyone’s waiting around for a few minutes at one point or another so interesting conversations crop up.

I was honestly shocked at how heavy it was when I picked it up for the first time.

One of my old friends had one in the early 80s that was an old half-frame. It was very tough and he often brought it along when down hill skiing. He would get 72 shots from a 36 shot roll so an entire ski weekend was printed from one roll. It had a sharp enough lens that glossy 4x6 prints were great and 5x7s had acceptable images. He bought it used cheap when backpacking around Europe in the 70s and had it for many years.

I plan to use it as my travel film camera. It just seems so tough.

Cool! It looks like you set the ISO on the lens ring and the aperture on the knob on top (opposite of other cameras). Also looks like the filter ring is dented...you going to try and straighten that out so you can run filters? Or are you not interested in doing that?

Looking forward to the test shots!

Oh ,wow...I did a little research and learned that you even focus from the top plate...that’s slick!

I'm working on gently straightening the filter ring. I'd love to put a lens hood on the front.

Love all the old cameras. I’ve been hanging on to an old Minolta to use as decoration since it crapped out on me.

....How does one acquire authorship in these parts of Kinja?

Turns out that the dent is in there for good. Shame.

Bummer. Maybe you could kludge something together to hold a square filter?
